Member of the First United Methodist Church formed part of the mass exodus of Liberians into foreign countries due to the civil war. One of such countries that granted residence to members was the United States of America. Besides those arriving, there were serveral other members of the First United Methodist church who had lived in the United States prior to the war.
In 1999, these members reaffirmed that despite the conditions inflicted on the mother church by the conflict in Liberia, it was an imperative that the work of the institution be continued whereever they were assembled. Further, they recognized that it was vital to erect a structure that would foster fellowship amongst members living in the Diaspora as well as provide spiritual guidance where approriate.
They organized themselves into a group now referred to as Reunion USA. Reunion USA meets once every year. At these conventions, members deliberate on issues affecting the church back home and formulate appropriate responses where possible.
Also, members hold one-on-one and group discussions aimed at strenthening faith and promoting the work of the church.Reunion USA wishes to extend an invitation to members of the First United Methodist Church, living in the United States of America and other part of North America to join in this worthy effort to keep the torch of our church burning. We also welcome the participation of individuals who have affiliations or interest with the church. God bless you all ! |
