  1. FUMC-MONROVIA CONDUCTS ONE-DAY MARRIAGE SEMINAR

The Family Life Ministry of the First United Methodist Church- Monrovia conducted a One-day Marriage Seminar on May 2, 2009.  According to the Chairperson of the Ministry, Sis. Diana Draper-Allen, the seminar was held to help married couples and would-be couples understand the way God wants them to live.  The seminar was held under the theme: “Partnership” with text taken from Amos 3:3.  Three topics were facilitated at the seminar:

    1. Financial management in Marital Relationship- this was facilitated by Rev. Hilary G. Paul, an Instructor of Biblical Studies at the Gbarnga School of Theology. He taught that married couples must trust each other in the area of finance. He called on couples to be transparent in their financial dealings. Failure to be transparent in financial matters may cause some serious marital problems, the clergyman said. He encouraged participants to use their finances wisely.
    2. Handling Crisis in Marital Relationship – this session was facilitated by Rev. Musu Harris of the Philadelphia Central Church. This clergywoman informed participants that every marriage experiences some form of conflict. What matters is how the crisis is handled, said the Pastor. She cautioned married couples to be friends, ask God’s guidance and to deal with crisis from the Christian perspective.  The clergywoman also said that sex, money and other things are the source of crisis in marriages.
    3. The Christian Home – this topic was facilitated by our Senior Pastor, Rev. Erlene P. Thompson.  She told the participants that a Christian home is a home where Jesus the Christ is the head; and the married couples and their families submit to his will. In this home, the parents introduced their children to Christ and demonstrate godly examples before the children. In such a home, God guides and directs every affair of the family. She called on all married couples to make their homes be centers for Jesus.

The seminar was attended by more than twenty (20) couples. At the close of the seminar, the participants pledged to be more committed to God and their partners.
